Welcome to Magruder!!
For everyone who is new to Magruder, below are some basic answers to the frequently asked questions we get.
In addition, we strongly encourage you to take some time and go over all the sections on our website. There is a lot of information for both students and parents. Items such as clubs and sports will be updated for the new school year when that information is available.
Every Magruder student is assigned a personal locker plus a separate lock for PE lockers.
Learning to use the locks is perhaps the most frustrating part of the first few days on campus. Even if you don't have your "official" combinations yet, you can quickly master how the combination locks work by practicing on the virtual lock game linked below.
Here are the instructions on how to rotate the lock dial. Our lockers use a 3 digit combination.
- Spin dial three times to the right to clear.
- Turn right to the first number: stop.
- Turn left (do a full turn and pass that first number) and go to second number: stop.
- Turn right and go directly to third number.
- Lift up on handle or pull down lock depending which lock you opening.
Virtual Practice Game -
This is a great online practice game where you can put in any combination and spin the dial to open. Since this is not a an official Magrude page, clicking will leave our site and this page does have ads. The game is in the middle: just put in three numbers and spin the dial to open. Remember, you must go past the first number before getting to the second number.

Thanks to funding provided by the State of California, all students have a nutritious snack and lunch.

Additionally, we simply do not have the staff available to accept lunches brought onto campus. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU PASS ANYTHING OVER THE FENCE TO YOUR STUDENT.
Click here to see our "Recommended School Supply" website page. This page can be found in our "Parents and Students" section.
In additon to our website page, a printed list will be sent in a packet, usually early August. Copies will also be available in the front office once it re-opens for the school year.
All supplies listed are suggestions and students will not be penalized if they do not have the supplies listed.
Yes, we do ask that all students dress-out for P.E. class. The PE Uniform consists of navy shorts and a gray t-shirt and does not need to be purchased through the school.
Click here to see all Information on PE classes and uniform requirement.
Additionally, students must lock up their belongings during PE class. Combination locks are loaned out at the beginning of the year for the PE lockers. Like library books, students are responsible for them and are expected to return locks in the same condition at the end of the school year. There is a replacement cost of $10 if the lock gets damaged or lost.
to purchase PE clothes
Registration is very important and takes place in two parts.
Part 1 - Online Forms
The online forms are accessed and submitted throught PowerSchool. This is best done using a browser on a computer or tablet. The PowerSchool phone app will not work for this. These are all the official forms such as emergency infomation, contacts, health information, etc. Every parent must fill out these forms and update them every year. The window for for doing this opens up on PowerSchool August 1st. You will find more instructions on our website in August: this information will also be mailed to you.
Part 2 - On Campus Registration
This year, 2025, our on campus registration event is on Tuesday, August 12th 9am - 2pm. This is also, our school's "Picture Day" time. During this time, class schedules will be given out, pictures taken and ID cards issued, PE clothes and other items will be available, locker assigned and many other things. Thanks to our parent volunteers, registration usually is a quick process: it is important that you and your student be here for this.
We are a “phone-off” campus.
As mandated by state law as well as by California Ed Code, our campus is a “No Cell Phone / No Electronics” zone during school hours. Students are never allowed to use electronic devices or cell phones anywhere on campus at any time without permission from a staff member. We kindly ask parents/guardians to restrict text messages during school hours. If you need to get a message to your student, call the front office (310) 533-4527 and we’ll be happy to relay it.
If an electronic device is confiscated for improper usage and it is a first offense, generally the student may pick the device up at the end of the school. ALL electronic offenses are logged onto student records. After a first offense, ONLY A PARENT/GUARDIAN MAY PICK THE DEVICE UP.
Also, no phones are not allowed inside the gym locker rooms at any time.
Click here to see our Dress Code Policy. We do want to mention, since it is hot when school begins that no clogs or flip flops are allowed due to safety reasons.
The Dress Code is located in our "Policies" section of this website. There are several items listed in our "Policies" section. Please take the time to review these rules and expectations with your student(s) before the first day of school.
Absences
Please let us know right away if your student is going to be absent. We have an online you can fill out any time. The link can also be found on the front page of our Website (it's the square icon with a red/white calendar just under the campus picture). This is our preferred and easiest method of notification. You can also call the Attendance Office (310) 533-4527 ext. 8891 and leave a message.
Leaving Early
We do ask for advance notice when you need to pull your student out of school early. This allows us time to get the student up to the front office. We cannot pull students out of class after 3pm.
Please check out our Health Office page. It has some useful information on emergencies, medications on campus, immunizations etc.
For additional information, you can contact our Health Services Assistant at (310) 533-4527 ext.8883.
Our volunteers at Magruder are so very important.
While we don’t have many of the volunteer jobs familiar to many coming from elementary school, they are vital to our campus just the same. All volunteers would need to complete the application process which is entirely online -
Also, it is highly recommented that you join our PTSA. They often are in need of volunteers for various activities on campus, and off.
Any adult who wishes to come onto campus during school time must pass through our RAPTOR Security Screening device. To do this, they will need to present a government issued identification card(a drivers license for example.) After the first time, you need only give us your name and show ID to be given an on campus permit.
For big events during school time such as "Family Lunch Days", there is a Security PreScreen link on the front page of our website. We will ask visitors to fill this out days before the event so we can do a "prescreen" to get everyone on campus faster. We appreciate your patience and understanding for this process.
No adult is allowed on campus unless they have an appointment and have gone through Security Screening. This security process is not needed for after school and evening events.
All gates are locked once the bell has rung to begin Period 1.
During school hours, everyone must come to the front gate and check in with the office: this includes parents and students.
Never pass anything over the fence or gate to your student for any reason. Bring any items for your student to the front office.
